Week 10. Spring is in the air the sun is out. Westraven Community Cafe is progressing well, attention is now at the back of house. the main kitchen is being installed, heavy equipment delivered and wating to be hooked up to the services, we have a walking fridge freezer installed and working. Youth area has had the security doors fitted and the walls lined and skimmed just needs a base coat of paint and some heaters installed. Training kitchen has yet to be installed. Not long before we get the building back and we can start adding furniture. we have be inundated with local artists wanting to display thier work within the cafe so we dont need to look at blank walls while you enjoy a full english or coffee and cake

If you have been down to Hampton centre, Westwood you may have noticed the shutters on the community cafe are open and what a transformation. The front of the cafe is coming along nicely the decorators will be in this week. Work is now concentraing on the back of the shop.

WOW!!!! The builders have been working hard.4 weeks in and after all the knocking and banging. we have stud work walls done, door frames and doors and most of the plastering. what a transformation.

Café Update: 2 weeks in and the builders have gutted the building and have started adding the structural alterations. We have UK Power Network on site adding the new mains electric feed in to the building. Everything is going to plan.

We are very excited for the year ahead! The lights are on and work has finally begun to clear the shop units and fit the new community cafe in Hampton Court. Due to open in Easter 2017, the community cafe will serve affordable meals and be a hub of activity for local residents

The Community Café is a double shop unit in Hampton Court, Westwood, Peterborough. Work will start on renovating the building in the New Year with an expected opening date in mid April 2017. The plans include a kitchen, seating area, training kitchen, community space and a youth space. The cafe will serve affordable, healthy and (where possible) seasonal or local food. The cafe will be a hive of activity with regular cultural, arts, intergenerational, youth and support sessions. Meet Kevin Earl, the Community Cafe Manager who will be running the show!

What's been happening?

Unfortunately the cafe building works were delayed this year due to a variety of set backs, including the discovery that substantial work needs to be undertaken to bring the electrical supply up to a suitable standard. However, despite these challenges we have managed to:

o   Put together layout designs for the kitchen, training kitchen and café area

o   Appoint contractors following a tender process

o   Develop the business plan

o   Undertake consultation with residents in June 2016 about menu choices in the café

o   Support a Sue Ryder Charity event in June 2016

o   Deliver Greeniversity cooking classes at Peterborough City College

o   Run several BBQ’s including: at a Sue Ryder event, for volunteers in the WestRaven Community Garden, at the Ravensthorpe Summer Fair and Ravensthorpe Sports Day

o  Deliver Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food cooking sessions in both local Primary Schools

o  Run demonstrations at Peterborough's Green Festival to promote the projectl

o   Cook food for Grandparents Day at Ravensthorpe School

o   Organise a Big Breakfast in one of the Sheltered Housing complexes
